Moving Slowly

I have been walking a lot lately.
Not normally something that I prioritize.
Not normally something that I bother with unless to go for a hike.
It takes a lot of time to go a measurable distance, even if you walk quickly like I do.
I feel like I don’t have time, I’d usually rather lift heavy things for an hour.
But lately it feels like heavy things are so much heavier than usual.
I haven’t been taking the time I need to rest my mind and my body.
I finished the big things, I got through the stress, but it does not feel like I have.
I feel residual stress, like the overwhelm has not gone away.
So, instead of burning through my precious energy, I’ve been taking walks. I feel like dirt, I feel like I’m setting back my progress, like I am not living up to everything that I have been working so hard for. But then I remember, this is everything that I stand for. I remember that these negative feelings are the same stigmatized ideals that I work to fight against.
Walking is not something to be frowned upon, and taking a break when you need it is worth prioritizing.
Moving your body, in any way that you can manage, is optimum. It’s not embarrassing, it's not worthless, it is not anything but wonderful. I love the gym, I love being active, but if walking is all that I can manage today, I am going to go for a walk. And I am going to be kind to myself and allow myself to enjoy it.
I may be moving slowly, but I am moving my body and prioritising my peace. And that is essential.
